Short answer: absolutely.
Pasadena is one of the best locations for senior pictures in Southern California. The architecture alone has more texture and depth than almost anything within driving distance of Santa Clarita. Stone, tile work, old doorways, light and shadow that shift completely block by block. You get editorial, moody, colorful, and classic all within a few blocks of each other.
This was Annabelle’s session. Saugus High School Class of 2027, dance team, and someone I’ve been photographing since her freshman year media days. Her senior pictures in Pasadena might be my favorite session I’ve ever shot!
Why Pasadena Is Worth the Drive

I’ve been shooting in Pasadena on and off for over 20 years way back from when I did weddings . I know which streets have good light and which ones turn into an oven by 2pm. I know the walls that photograph beautifully and the ones that look great in person but fall flat on camera. I’ve spent years scouting these spots, and that’s part of what you get when you book with me. I’m not going to list every hidden alley and side street here because finding them is the whole point of hiring a photographer who’s done the work.
What I will say: Pasadena City Hall is stunning and absolutely worth building a session around. The architecture, the arches, the scale of it. It photographs like nothing else in the LA area.

Annabelle’s Session

If You’re Thinking About Pasadena for Your Senior’s Session
The drive from Santa Clarita is about 40 minutes without traffic. With traffic, plan for closer to an hour. I like to start around 2:30 because the light in the areas I shoot hits its sweet spot in the afternoon and the foot traffic has calmed down. Parking is easy, plenty of street options.
Bring all outfits on hangers. Quick changes happen in the car. (Annabelle handled five outfits, one of them twice, and barely broke a sweat. Dance team perks.) And if you want to add a second location in SCV like we did, we can make that work. It just takes a little extra planning on my end, which is my favorite part anyway.

The Hillside Back Home

Annabelle showed up at 2:30 and we were immediately off. Years on the dance team gave her this natural awareness of how to move and land a pose without overthinking it. Dancers are also known to change outfits ridiculously fast, which is extremely helpful when you’ve got five looks to get through and the sun is not waiting for you.
She brought this blue two-piece skirt set from Altar’d State that I had been dying to shoot ever since I first saw it. It was one of those pieces where I knew exactly what it was going to look like against Pasadena’s architecture before we even got there. She loved it so much she wore it again later. Can’t blame her.
Plot twist. After Pasadena, we hauled it back to Santa Clarita because there’s this hillside I haven’t shot at in years and I knew it would be perfect for some gorgeous golden hour images and I genuinely did not think we were going to make it back to Santa Clarita in time. We pulled up about fifteen minutes before sunset, Annabelle threw the blue Altar’d State set back on, and oh my God.
I was yelling out loud while I was shooting because it was THAT good. The light was doing that thing where everything just glows and every direction is working. This spot could have been its own entire session. I’m obsessed with how these turned out.
Where is it? Not telling. IYKYK. But that’s the thing about working with a photographer who actually lives here. I’m not pulling locations off Pinterest. I’ve spent 25 years driving these roads and spotting light in places most people drive right past. Those spots are yours when you book with me.
Your Turn
