Iam obsessed with Sarah’s Los Angeles Senior Pictures!! Sarah is a class of 2017 senior from Quartz Hills High School and she is one of my 2017 TR Senior Models! Her outfits were so amazing and so I chose a location that would give us lots of options. I wanted someplace that would give us beautiful natural areas but also a little bit of clean urban areas. What do I mean by “clean” urban? Clean urban to me are places with a bit of a city feel but without a ton of crazy walls or graffiti. Don’t get me wrong, I love crazy colored walls and graffiti and shoot those types of areas pretty often, but I didn’t think that look would go as well with Sarah’s outfits. Can we just take note on how amazing her wardrobe is that she chose for her Los Angeles senior pictures? I mean seriously amazing!! Here’s some of my favorite images (yes, there are a ton) and some tips Sarah gave for when you’re planning your own senior portraits!
Enjoy!
Q. College Plans? If so, where?
A. USC/Vanderbilt
Q. College Major
A. public health
Q. What extracurricular activities are you involved in? List off any sports, interests, hobbies, or organizations you participate in.
A. ASB- PR, class president, golf team captain, Support Our Troops president, Glasses For Our Youth LLC founder, Volunteer at the AV hospital in Pediatrics and ER, International Baccalaureate student, wind ensemble flutist
Q. What kind of look were you going for in your senior photos?
A. I tried to have different looks in each photo. Some of them being more urban and others having that more “boho” look. I also wanted my photos to capture my personality and my style.
Q. How was your experience during your senior shoot?
A. I loved it! I had so much fun and felt like a star with Tara. She made me feel so comfortable in front of the camera. I really liked all the different outfits I brought and it was fun doing poses and jumping around in them. It was a bit hot in the afternoon but I still loved my experience.
Q. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone getting their senior photos taken
A. I recommend getting a good night rest. The long day can become tiring from all the traveling but it’s still very fun.
Q. How many outfits did you take?
A. 6
Q. Would you have taken more or less, reasons why?
A. I think I took a good amount of clothes.
Q. Did you accessorize differently with each outfit? If you have any tips on how many accessories, jewelry, shoes, headbands, etc they should bring, please list those tips here.
A. I did! I brought a variety of accessories- from sunglasses to rings to hats. I encourage everyone to bring a bunch of accessories because they can do a really good job complementing each outfit and adding an extra pop of color
Q. Did you take any props or try to incorporate any activities that you’re in?
A. no
Q. Any tips on how to prepare for the session or must have things to bring?
A. Spandex can be pretty helpful for those outfits with skirts. I also recommend bringing a sticky bra for the girls out there.
Q. Any tips on hair/makeup? Where did you get your inspiration for this? Did you bring in pictures or have a plan prior to your styling
A. I really wanted to keep my makeup more natural and simple, shying away from the bright lips or smoky eyes. I wanted photos that represented my daily life look and I did research on Pinterest and Instagram. There are some great makeup artist/hair stylist out there like Alex Centomo and Bella Fiori that can be great inspirations.
Q. Did you find a store that had everything you were looking for? Use this space to talk about favorite shops. If we shot 3 different looks, try to mention where you got your clothes, shoes, headbands, accessories for those looks.
A. I love the store Free People and Revolve. Revolve has the best lines, especially the Jetset Diaries that everyone should check out. I wish I had gotten a few more things from there. The outfits really complemented my body and were fun and really trendy. Accessories from Forever 21 are a must because they are all really cute and affordable.
Q. What ended up being your favorite outfit and why?
A. I loved the blue outfit in the grass because the colors turned out really nice. I loved how Tara was able to capture fun, serious, and candid looks in the dress. My favorite part was dancing and hopping around in the dress without any shoes on! So fun!
Q. Let’s talk about locations. What location(s) did you choose for your session? Why did you choose that location? Do you wish you would have gone some place different or would you suggest where you went?
A. I originally had a hard time finding a place that I just loved so I sent a bunch of photos to Tara, asking which place would be best. Tara recommended a location with a variety of backgrounds, ranging from laundromats, to grass fields, to urban settings. I loved the place because the lighting in all the photos turned out really nice and we were able to get a variety of settings.
