fun & modern senior portraits in Los Angeles California by Tara Rochelle photography

For todays blog, I am featuring modern urban senior pictures in Los Angeles with Lilia from Hart High School in Santa Clarita! Lilia is so sweet and she brought along her bestie and her dad to her photo shoot! Most of the session was photographed in more of an urban type setting. For the last part of her senior portraits, we did them in a beautiful nature area with bright pops of green color!

Here is what Lilia had to say for those starting to plan their own urban senior pictures in Los Angeles! Let’s start off by learning a little more about Lilia.

  • Q. College Plans? If so, where?
    A. UCLA
  • Q. College Major
    A. Undecided
  • Q. What extracurricular activities are you involved in? List off any sports, interests, hobbies, or organizations you participate in.
    A. Gymnastics
    Photography
    Reading
  • Q. What kind of look were you going for in your senior photos?
    A. I wanted a mixture of urban and natural which Tara was able to help me find perfectly!
  • Q. How was your experience during your senior shoot?
    A. I absolutely loved my day of shooting! Tara really made my experience unforgettable and I was able to bring my best friend along with me which definitely added to the fun.
  • Q. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone getting their urban senior pictures in Los Angeles taken?
    A. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. The more you enjoy yourself and let your personality come out, the better the photos will come out and the more memories you will have behind your shoot.
  • Q. How many outfits did you take?
    A. 7
  • Q. Would you have taken more or less, reasons why?
    A. I think if anything, more is better. You never know how you’ll feel about your outfit choices the day of the shoot and it is better to end up having outfits you don’t use than not having enough.
  • Q. Did you accessorize differently with each outfit?
    A. I tried to accessorize all my outfits as differently as possible. I never reused a necklace but on a few I had some of the same rings, but for the most part, I used different accessories for each. I recommend bringing a generous selection of necklaces, rings, and bracelets to complete each look!
  • Q. Did you take any props or try to incorporate any activities that you’re in?
    A. No
  • Q. Any tips on how to prepare for the session or must have things to bring?
    A. Be sure to take care of your skin and avoid getting sunburnt and if you’re going to choose a color for your nails try to pick one that will match all your outfit choices.
  • Q. Any tips on hair/makeup? Where did you get your inspiration for this? Did you bring in pictures or have a plan prior to your styling?
    A. I looked through makeup ideas on Pinterest and found a few I liked to show the makeup artist and let her do a combo of what she thought was best. With my hair, I prefer to give my hair as much volume as possible since it is thin, so I asked her to do that with smoke curls and for some outfits, we changed my hair to add to the style of the outfit.

  • Q. Did you find a store that had everything you were looking for?
    A. No, I didn’t find my outfits in one place. I find a lot of my clothes at Tilly’s but not all of them. My favorite outfits were my flowered dress, cardigan and boot outfit, all of which I found at Tilly’s and the rings I found at Icing. I also found my other outfit at Tilly’s which was a purple shirt, ripped jeans and boots. My rings were also from Tilly’s in that outfit and I borrowed a bracelet from Tara for that look and then lastly I wore a Tiffany’s necklace which I already had prior to the shoot. Another outfit I loved was blue and white long dress which a got from a small store in the mall and accessorized with rings from Tilly’s, a necklace from Forever 21 and shoes from Blue Sugar.
  • Q. What ended up being your favorite outfit and why?
    A. I don’t know if i could narrow it down to just one favorite outfit. I really loved the dress and boots outfit in combination to the location we shot in, but i also really loved the white shirt, jeans, heals and hat outfit and the way it turned out in photos. Those are just a few though I really loved the way my outfit choices all expressed different different aspects of my personality and I think that it is important to think of that when choosing your outfits.
  • Q. Let’s talk about locations. What location(s) did you choose for your session? Why did you choose that location? Do you wish you would have gone some place different or would you suggest where you went?
    A. We did one shoot in a more vintage area, one by train tracks, one urban, and a few nature shot locations. I don’t know that I would have changed my location choices because I really loved that I was able to incorporate a variety of areas.
