Jordyn : Agoura California Senior Portraits at Private Ranch

Today I’m sharing with you Jordyn’s Agoura California Senior Portraits that we photographed at a private ranch!  These awesome images were taken at the famous Rock Store and at her grandpa’s place. It was seriously one of the most fun adventures.. I mean senior pictures ever! We were spoiled with greetings from a mini horse, “Blue” the mastiff, not to mention, chickens, and many other fun furry friends! I love it when clients choose locations that are important and sentimental to them. Of course, not everyone has great locations at their fingertips like this, but when it works out.. ahhhhh-mazing things happen! Jordyn is a Class of 2018 senior from Hart High School and will be attending the University of Utah in the fall for Secondary Education/History.
Here’s what she had to say about her Agoura California Senior Portraits and some fun facts about herself!

Q. What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
A. I play softball at a very elite level. I will be taking my talents and continuing my softball career at the University of Utah. I also love traveling and going to the beach.
Q. What kind of look were you going for in your senior photos?
A. There were a few outfits that I picked out for specific shots, but for the most part, I was going for looks that would represent me. I knew for sure that I wanted a long dress to shoot on top of the rock. There’s always a breeze up there and I wanted something that would flow in the wind. For the shots including the 1973 Dodge Charger and Harley Davidson motorcycle, I really wanted to go for a “rocker” kind of look that would make me look like a “badass” if you know what I mean.
Q. How was your experience during your senior shoot?
A. I had an amazing experience with my shoot! Wendy (makeup/hair) did an amazing job and made me feel like a queen. Tara was so awesome and made me feel so comfortable throughout the entire day. It was honestly the best day ever!!
Q. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone getting their senior photos taken?
A. My one piece of advice would be to stay true to yourself. Pick out a location that represents you. Make outfit selections based on the kind of person that you are. Don’t try to be something that you are not just because it may be the “hip” thing to do. You’re going to look back on this years later and it’d be a shame if you did’t recognize yourself in the pictures. This shoot is YOURS so make it all about YOU!

Q. How many outfits did you take?
A. I brought five
Q. Would you have taken more or less, reasons why?
A. I was perfectly fine with having five outfits. I would only take more if there was more time
Q. Did you accessorize differently with each outfit?
A. I did accessorize for each and every outfit. I kept in simple stud (diamond) earrings for four of my five outfits because switching out earrings seemed like a waste of time when you couldn’t even see my ears anyway. I loved my looks with chokers because I think they are super cute. The shoes were my favorite part. I brought wedges for dresses, cowboy boots for my flannel outfit, and black combat boots for the rocker. I ended up going barefoot with my photos on the rock because I wanted a more “natural” look with the amazing background. Honestly, I would bring whatever you may believe would look good. Sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised with the different combinations!
Q. Did you take any props or try to incorporate any activities that you’re in?
A. I took photos with my dad’s 1973 Dodge Charger and my grandfather’s Harley Davidson motorcycle. Both are important things in my family and I loved the idea of incorporating them in my shoot. Also, I took pictures in an Indian headdress because my high school’s mascot is an Indian and my college’s is a Ute.
Q. Any tips on how to prepare for the session or must have things to bring?
A. Bring some water and snacks. Wear something comfortable during hair and makeup that you can easily take off.
Q. Any tips on hair/makeup?
A. I actually just looked at the photos on Tara’s Instagram page to get inspiration for my hair and makeup! I recommend going with a very natural look for makeup.
Q. Did you find a store that had everything you were looking for?
A. I got almost every single piece of clothing from Francesca’s except my white flowered dress (American Eagle) and my rocker look (H&M). All of my shoes were from Francesca’s expect the cowboy boots and black combat boots (Steve Madden).

Q. What ended up being your favorite outfit and why?
A. My favorite outfit was my “rocker” outfit because I was so happy with how perfectly it matched with the car and motorcycle. It really captured the mood I was looking for.
Q. Let’s talk about locations. What location(s) did you choose for your session?
A. I chose to shoot at my grandfather’s property in the Santa Monica mountains. Ever since I was a little girl my mom and I had discussed having my senior pictures taken there. His property is beautiful and it reminds me of all the memories I have there with my family.
