9/11 Tribute : 10 Year Anniversary : Freedom Photo Shoot

9/11 Tribute : 10 Year Anniversary : Freedom Photo Shoot

So, I have wanted to do some sort of photo shoot with an American twist for a very long time now and I thought doing a 9/11 tribute and it being the 10 year anniversary today, would be a pretty good reason to finally do it. I’m sure like many other people, I remember exactly where I was on that day. I was heading to my job at a photo lab when I heard the news on the radio. I was listening to Jamie & Danny (Bonaduce) like I did every morning on Star 98.7 and at first I thought they were pulling some sort of a prank or joke. At that point, the first plane had hit the World Trade Center building and no one seemed to know what really was going on. After the second plane, everyone, including myself, were in total disbelief. As the day went on it just seemed to get worse and worse. What the heck was happening? And here in America? That just seemed unreal to me.

Now I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not much of a political person and current events are probably not my strong suit unless it’s something I’ve read in People magazine or seen on E!. I’m sure that sounds terrible and I’m sorry, but it’s true. But, here is what I do know. I am so very grateful to live in a country like the United States. I am so proud to say that I am an American. I am forever indebted to the brave men and women that put their lives on the line to give me the life and freedom that I have here in this amazing place I call home. Does our government have it’s faults and problems? Of course. But it’s still pretty awesome if you ask me.

Well, here we are 10 years later and so much has changed. I now am blessed with two beautiful little girls that I would do absolutely anything for. They are just incredible. I want to especially thank our cousins, Timra and Bruce, for all that you have done to serve and protect our country and it’s people. You have given up so much and being parents to young kids, I know that is asking an awful lot. You have sacrificed and done so much that I am forever grateful to you both. You have spent months away from your kids so that the rest of us can live here with our families and have our freedom. Thank you to all the men and women, the husbands and wives, the mommies and daddies, the brothers and sisters, that protect and fight for all of us. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!!

For all of those thousands of lives that were lost on that terrible day, you are missed, you are loved, and we will never forget you. God bless.

I, too, was listening to Jamie and Danny on the morning of 9/11! I was driving to work in Washington State when I decided to turn off my U2 CD to listen to the radio. Having moved from California to Oregon a month earlier, I missed Los Angeles and would listen to Jamie and Danny, as annoying s they could be, just to have a taste of home. So when I changed from CD to radio, I was confused, hearing Danny Bonaducci talking about hating to make light of a tragedy, or something like that. I immediately changed the channel to a news station and the tragedy was confirmed. I drove the rest of the way to work, about 20 minutes, bawling. I could barely see the road ahead. You’re the first person I have ever heard say that they were listening to the same radio program as I was that morning.
