I’ve been photographing the Shah’s family portraits for a few years now and thought I’d better hurry up and get these posted before I shoot the next one!! We try to photograph them in a new location every year, so this time we did it at one of my regular spots in Santa Clarita. It has a great blend of some natural outdoor areas and then a few rustic spaces too. It’s hard to believe how big Asher and Ayden are both getting!! Wow! Aren’t they such a beautiful family? Can’t wait to see them again soon for their updated pictures!! Enjoy…

I have lots of favorite places that I like to do shoots at in Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Hollywood, Venice, Agoura and Santa Barbara so I am happy to come out to you if you’re not able to make it out to the SCV (you can view lots of examples on our portrait website)!! Check out some more pictures from the Shah’s family portraits from years past and also Asher’s newborn session. We would love to do your pictures as well!! It’s getting close to the crazy busy time of year when I’m pulling my hair out to try and meet the holiday deadlines, but we do still have a few spots still open. The weekends are almost completely booked up until the very end of November!! Or if this time of year is just too hectic for ya, why not plan to do your family pictures at the beginning of the year? I have several clients that do spring portrait session with me each year so by the time the holidays come (which always creeps up way too fast), their pictures are already done!! Please call the studio at 1-800-995-8272 or email us at tara@tararochelle.com to schedule your own family portraits session!

I am so very happy with how my very first portrait event for the charity Operation Smile, Celebration of Smiles went. I had a lot of helpers so first a shoot out to them : My awesome assistant friend, Jocelyn, for helping the day stay on schedule and taking care of all the donations. Ryan, Alexa, and Ava, for your support and entertainment, and Crystal for helping me with everything else as needed (best WaterGirl ever).

As a member of PPA (professional photographers of America), I was given the opportunity to take part in the Celebration of Smiles Event to help out the amazing organization, Operation Smile. 100% of the donations were sent to Operation Smile. Operation Smile has been around since 1982 and is an international children’s medical charity that heals and repairs children’s smiles. They have provided over 200,000 FREE surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates, and other facial deformities. The way it worked was that for a suggested donation of $24, each person received a mini portrait session (could be individually, with a sibling, or a family) and then they also received a 5×7 finished portraits. We ended up shooting a variety of families, children, a high school senior, and even a pet (the bunny even had a matching outfit to go with his “mommy”). I am happy to say that it went beyond my expectations and even though there were a few minor hiccups, I was so glad that I did it. I photographed 37 mini portrait sessions that day and thanks to my awesome clients, I was able to donate over $1300!!

As an added bonus, I just found out today that 3 of my images won for the PPA Charities Portrait Awards!!!

First Place : Teen Category (of the gorgeous Riley from Saugus High School)

First Place : Pets Category (Eeyore the Bunny and his mommy Megan M.)

Second Place : Children Category (the beautiful Megan!!)

Plus Second AND Third Place overall (Riley & Megan)!!

It has been over 10 years since I’ve entered any photo competitions so I am beyond excited!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of my fabulous friends and clients that helped me support this charity and it makes me so happy to know that we saved a ton of smiles that day!!

Did you miss out on this event? I am going to try my best to do it again in 2013 and want it to be an even bigger success!! In the meantime, now is the perfect time to do your holiday children portraits or even your family session! You can view our other post about Operation Smile and another children’s portraits session in Santa Clarita here on the blog.

I had a great afternoon photographing Madison (from Canyon High School) for her senior portraits in Santa Clarita. She is such a sweetheart!! As many of you already know, I highly, highly recommend having someone do your makeup professionally for your pictures. Sure, most girls think they can do “good” makeup but “good” makeup in person is not the same as having amazing makeup that is camera ready for photography. So, I had Madison get her makeup done at my favorite MAC store and of course they did a fabulous job. Here is what Madison had to say about herself…

1. I was going to be named after Batman’s girlfriend, Andrea Beaumont, because Batman was my brother’s favorite movie.
2. I don’t like fried chicken… I know it is un-American.
3. My favorite color is purple
4. I have a tiny obsession with high heels and rings.
5. My childhood crush was Aron Carter. I loved him.
6. I am one of the biggest klutz and tend to do really stupid things
7. I had two heart surgeries because I had a whole in my heart.
8. My first job was at McDonalds.
9. I refuse to read books that become movies because I know that the books will be better than the movies.
10. Fall is my favorite season because of the weather, the colors and Halloween.
11. My car has a name and it is Hercules.
12. I can’t eat Sushi because of the thought of it being raw.
13. I always look at things as a glass half full. I am very optimistic.
14. I grew up playing soccer for nine years and just two years ago I started running track and cross country.
15. One day I want to buy a plane ticket to Africa and travel there with no plan on what I am going to do… not even a hotel.
16. I have had a cinder block fall on my head and I have fallen out of a go-kart.
17. People think I am crazy because I don’t like chocolate, cake or doughnuts.
18. When I was really young my family and I went to England for three weeks and I was a flower girl for a wedding there.
19. I have had straight A’s in school my whole life.
20. One day I would love to make a difference in the world and do something that impacts the environment.
21. My mom is my best friend.
22. I was awarded a scholarship to go on an Earthwatch expedition where I worked with a world wide known professor.
23. When I am older I want to live in Fiji.
24. I have never broken any bone.
25. Over the summer of 2011 I ran 717 miles for cross country.
